  • So I finished Prison Break.  Forever ago.  I’m mostly satisfied, but that end threw me a little.  By the end, Lincoln and Sucre were probably the favorite characters of the bunch, though I still have a place in my heart for Michael.
  • Peace out, V.  I guess I stopped caring, like, immediately after you were cancelled.
  • Pam and Jim are the cutest couple.  Ever.  Second ONLY to Doug and Carol on ER.  But it’s, like, suicide to compete with George Clooney, let’s be honest.  I’m on Season 5 of The Office, and I haven’t seen all of these episodes but they’re still funny.  “Guess what? I have flaws. What are they? Oh I donno, I sing in the shower? Sometimes I spend too much time volunteering. Occasionally I’ll hit somebody with my car. So sue me– no, don’t sue me. That is opposite the point I’m trying to make.”
  • 24 Season 1 is one of the greatest modern-day shows ever created.  It’s so original, so intense, and pretty much revolutionized TV in the 21st century.  Don’t deny it.  Jack Bauer is a definite bad-A.  I’m starting on Season 2 now, and it’s awesome too.  Sad that it started sucking in the end.

tv rules my world a little too much sometimes: an update

So I’m in college, right? And when you’re in college that naturally means that you have no time to watch movies because you’re studying 24/7.  Right right right… This is half true.  I figure that I can grant myself 20 (or 40) minutes leisure time after a long day of school and work.  So I’ve been watching a lot of TV.  But really, after 4 40-minute episodes… I should have just watched a movie.  I justify it in that I don’t care as much for TV series so I concentrate less and do a little bit of homework.  With movies I want to soak it all in.

Lately it’s been Prison Break.  I cruised through Season 1 and am now about a third of the way through Season 2.  The only thing that can sufficiently describe this series is “crack cocaine.” It’s soooo addicting but it never leads ANYWHERE.  Just 40-minute segments each with a new twist and cliff-hanger to boot and you just HAVE to see what happens next… every time.  The first season was solid though.  There’s nothing cooler than those tattoos, man.  Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) is a good lead guy, Lincoln (Dominic Purcell) is also pretty good stuff.  So far this season (2) hasn’t been disappointing either, though it’s crazy how these shows manipulate you this way and that.

When I only have a 20-minute window though I’m working my way through The Office from Season 1.  Man, I forgot how hilarious this show is.  I hadn’t been too pleased with the latest efforts in Season 6, (I’ve yet to catch up with Season 7) but this is back to the basics.  What a stellar set of characters.  Dwight (Rainn Wilson), Michael (Steve Carell), Jim (John Krasinski).  And I completely forgot that Amy Adams was even in this!  Jim and Dwight together are so great: staplers in Jello, selling Dwight’s personal items in the vending machine, pencil health-hazards, “Um, it’s also Thursday… but Dwight thinks it’s Friday.  So keep that going.”  That “Basketball” episode in Season 1 is classic.

Quote from the last ep I watched: “I enjoy having breakfast in bed. I like waking up to the smell of bacon, so sue me. And since I don’t have a butler, I have to do it myself. So, most nights before I go to bed, I will lay six strips of bacon out on my George Foreman grill. Then I go to sleep. When I wake up, I plug in the grill. I go back to sleep again. Then I wake up to the smell of crackling bacon. It is delicious, it’s good for me; it’s the perfect way to start the day.”

Vantage Point (2008)

leave a comment »

I consider myself to be a “film person.”  I mean, more so than TV.  I never watched much TV growing up and there few shows that I watch regularly.  My heart lies with movies.  But I will say this: if the series is good, I’m there, and I’m there to stay.  Some of my favorite TV shows include Lost, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Monk, The Office, The West Wing, and ER. There’s something about spending that many hours with the same characters (we all know I’m a character person).  I feel so attached to Mary Richards, Mark Greene, President Bartlet, and Monk.  They’re my friends.  So, you see, my small but firm attachment to TV improves my film experience.  If ER‘s Juliana Margulies is in anything – I’m there.  Same goes for John Krasinski, Ed Asner, Rob Lowe, and certainly George Clooney.  So, even though I’d heard mixed reviews for Vantage Point – I was totally going to see it because of Matthew Fox, our lead Lostie.

And you know, I liked it!  To a point, that is.  Essentially, it’s nothing more than a glorified 23 minute assassination.  We figure out the whodunnit and whole story by viewing multiple vantage points of the various characters.  It’s like putting a puzzle together – with each “rewind” more pieces come together.  It’s a great concept with mediocre execution, though it is stylish.  The story itself is extremely implausible (and I mean extreme), but a lot of fun.

It’s got a good cast – William Hurt, Dennis Quaid, Forrest Whittaker, Sigourney Weaver, and Fox.  Two thumbs up for the short running time.  Great action sequences.  I’m not sure what the moral is nor what *certain characters* motives were.  Also, the ending felt abrupt – as if the big build up throughout the movie led to no where.  And, frankly, this is not Dennis Quaid’s best movie ever.

So really, the more I intelligently think about it the worse it gets – I no longer fear being hit by a car since, obviously, I will never die nor be injured despite being smooshed by a semi.  I’m also now pretty confident that I can single-handedly take out the secret service and waltz into the residence to kidnap the President. …But I can’t deny that I was pretty into it.  Suspending my disbelief is rarely this fun. 6/10

I mentioned that I’m a Lost Addict, right?

Well. I’m also in love with this man:

He’s the epitome of sexy bad-A. But he’s a total softy. And I totally love him.

BUT.

I love this couple like real people. Half the reason I still watch this show is to make sure they end up together. (Okay, that’s sort of a lie. There are many reasons I watch this show).

So then there’s:

Totally in love with him too. (And The Office).

But.

Yeah, I love this couple like real people too. They DID end up together. And even worse:

Real life girl. But I love them both. So I guess I can forgive them.

But! (Yes, there’s another but).

This fictional character, Neal Caffrey from White Collar, is totally single. Sure he’s SEARCHING for his girl.. but he’s totally available right now. Ha.

Too bad fictional characters are so much better than real people.

Oh. Just for good measure:

This is my favorite fictional couple of all time. They’re so wonderful together, I’m not even jealous 🙂
